De Kerk building

This former church was founded in 1882 by a monastic community. Almost a hundred years later, the building was largely destroyed by fire, but enough of its original parts remained for it to be converted into an exceptional residential building. As a result, students can live here and even enjoy a game of table tennis in the lofty entrance area! You’ll all be able to meet up on one of the two roof terraces. And there’s a communal room that you can hire if you want to throw a party in church!

Rooms, studios and apartments for students

The rooms in De Kerk are on average 17m². You’ll share a kitchen, bathroom and toilet with one or more fellow residents. The studios are an average size of 23m² and the apartments measure around 36m². The studios and apartments have completely private facilities. De Kerk, located at Goudse Rijweg 419-599, has 170 rooms, 37 studios and 5 apartments. There is an active residents’ committee.

Living between Kralingen and the centre

The Rubroek district is a fantastic location for Rotterdam students. You’re just a five-minute bike ride from the centre, so can get to the Markthal or to the Meent shopping street in no time. On Goudsesingel, which is just a couple of minutes from home, you’ll find the Industriegebouw, which is full of trendy bars and eateries. Meanwhile, you’re also on the border of upcoming Crooswijk and the Kralingen student district, which is packed with great bars. So there’s plenty to choose from! A five-minute bike ride will get you to Kralingse Bos, where you can spend summers relaxing by the water or check out a festival. The university and college buildings are within cycling distance.
