Why is my house number changing?

On the 1st July 2009 the Addresses and Buildings Database Act (known in Dutch as ‘wet BAG’) became effective. In 2013 the act was tightened to such an extend that the (student) rooms (residential accommodation designated for a multi-person household) are no longer eligible for individual house numbers. Therefore, in collaboration with the municipality, the house number has changed.

Do I need to inform DUO about the change of house number?

No, DUO ('Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs') is informed automatically whenever an address is changed.

Does the change of the house number affect the housing benefits?

No, the change of house number does not affect any housing benefits. Furthermore, the Tax Office has been informed by Stadswonen Rotterdam concerning the change of house numbers. However, The Tax Office needs some time to make adjustments to her administration. During this period changes to the benefits are possible. In the end the benefits willbe processed correctly with retrospective effect.

What is the scope of the BAG act?

The Addresses and Buildings Database Act (known in Dutch as ‘wet BAG’) are part of a governmental registration system. Municipalities are the key source holders of the BAG. They are responsible for recording the data in the BAG and for its quality. All municipalities make the data concerning addresses and buildings centrally available via the National Service BAG ('Landelijke Voorziening' BAG). The office of land registry ('het Kadaster') manages the national service and makes the data available to the various organisations. Organizations with a public task, such as ministries, polder or dike boards, the police force and emergency services, are required to use the authentic data from the registrations. In the unforeseen case it does affect the permits, send an email to bagstudentenhuisvesting@rotterdam.nl with the mention the change of house number is the result of the BAG act and the request to re-establish the parking permit.

Am I eligible to compensation due the change of house number?

No, the changes are a result of an obligation imposed by law and therefore there will be no compensation or reimbursement.

Do I need to inform people about the change of house number?

Stadswonen Rotterdam will make sure to adjust the house numbers at the mail boxes and doorbells. Suggestion: you can use the "Moving Houses" service (in Dutch) by the Postal Services / Post NL.
